Kandariya Mahadeva Temple is sited at Khajuraho which lies in the state of Madhya Pradesh (India). It is a sacred place of Hindus. It is a temple belonging medieval period of India. This shrine was erected by the king Dhangadeva. It is truly dedicated to Lord Shiva. The most magnificent shrine of the place is Kandariya Mahadeva Temple. One can reach Khajuraho by mean of three modes: roads, rail and air. The route of Khajuraho is connected to many other cities which are carried out by the car. The nearest railway station of Khajuraho is Khajuraho Railway Station. The domestic airport of Khajuraho is City Airport Khajuraho. After reaching Khajuraho one can reach the shrine by hiring bus or taxi.

The security mechanism at Kandariya Mahadeva Temple is average. The security is only up to the level of crowd management. Yatris should not carry cash and ornaments with them. They should keep their luggage at safe and secure place.

 

When to Visit

The best time to visit the temple is during the month from January to March and October to December. It is opened all the days of the week. Its timings are: 5AM to 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The entry fee is Rs 10 for each person.

What To See And Do

The temple is large and big covering a great span with stunning carved statues and paintings. The shrine is made up of brown stone. The Shikara of this sanctum reveals Mount Kailash having a height of 31 meters. This Shikara is enveloped by 84 other Shikaras. This shrine comprises 646 statues. For taking entry in to the temple yatris have to cross a series of stairs. The porch of this temple is decorated with garlands. After entering the shrine there is a lingam of Lord Shiva made up of marble and an idol of Lord Shiva bearing trident and snake accompanied by the idols of Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu.

There are many dharamshalas and youth hostels at Khajuraho which provide stay at economical prices. These dharamshalas and youth hostels are: Circuit House, Jain Lodge, Jain Dharamshala, Laxmi Lodge, New Bharat Lodge and MPTDC Jungle Camp Panna etc.

Khajuraho Dance Festival is organized every year at this shrine. Here best classical dancers use to perform. Dances like Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Manipuri, Odissi and Kuchipudi etc. are performed in this temple.

Yatris should take video camera with them in order to trap each and every activity of the whole trip. They should also take a personal diary for having the written record of the whole trip along with the feelings and emotions at that period of time. They should also hire a tourist guide for having the complete knowledge of the shrine including its history. They should also take first aid for curing frequent injury.
